Like most delivery apps, Shipt's application process for Shoppers is simple and straightforward. You can follow the signup link from any device, but you'll be prompted to download the Shipt app and complete the application from your smartphone.
Here's everything you can expect from the Shipt Shopper application process, including what questions you'll be asked, what information you'll need to provide, and what happens after you’ve submitted your application.
Before you apply for Shipt, make sure you meet its Shopper requirements and that it's available in your area . Once you confirm that it seems like a good fit, proceed to the application by clicking the signup link and entering your email address and ZIP code on the Shipt Shopper signup page.
You can do this from any device, but you'll be prompted to download the Shipt app on your phone to complete the application.
Once you download the app, you'll see the following screen — simply hit continue:
The first step in the application is to fill out your mailing info. You'll need to provide your full mailing address as shown below:
The next screen will prompt you to input more personal details — your first and last name, email address, and phone number. You'll also need to agree to Shipt's Shopper Privacy Notice , and you'll have the option of allowing Shipt to send you signup updates via text messages. The latter isn’t a requirement for the application, so it's up to your personal preference whether you want to opt in or not. However, longtime gig worker Joshua Merritt notes that it's "wise to do if you don’t check your email often so you can avoid missing your chance."
The final step in the application process is to certify that you’re 18 years of age or older. On this screen, you'll also be able to input a Shipt referral code if you've been given one by another Shopper in the market.
The Shipt application itself takes just a few minutes to complete, but it's only the first part of Shipt's hiring process . Once you submit your application, you'll find out immediately whether your application is under review, which means you're moving forward in the process. After that, you’ll need to consent to a background check , and if you pass, you’ll do an interview after that. If all goes well, you’ll get accepted and be able to start using the app and earn money as a Shipt Shopper or Driver.
If Shipt determines you’re not a good fit, either based on your background check or your interview, you may be able to appeal the decision. You can also reapply at a later date — sometimes Shipt rejects someone on the first go and then hires them later on. Joshua notes, "They typically do not provide a reason for denial, but you can at least review your background check to see if there is anything on there you may have not been aware of and try to get it removed or wait for it to drop before applying again."
The other possibility after submitting is that you’ll be placed on Shipt's waiting list . You’ll find out whether you’ve been waitlisted immediately after submitting your application — instead of being notified that your application is under review, you’ll be told that you’re on the waitlist. The waitlist can take a very long time to get off, so it’s a good idea to apply to other gigs, like DoorDash and Instacart , while you wait.
The time it takes to get hired largely depends on whether you’ve been waitlisted — if Shipt reviews your application right away, you can likely expect to hear back within a few days. However, Shipt is notoriously difficult to get approved for, as it often has enough Shoppers in a given area to meet demand, so being waitlisted is relatively likely.
"Some people in Shipt groups on Facebook or Reddit will claim to be able to get you off the Shipt list and will ask you to give them money or sensitive information to do so," warns Joshua . "These are always scams, and no one will be able to expedite this process for you."
There's no way to check on your application status. If you’ve been told your application is under review, then you can assume that Shipt is looking it over and making a determination. When Shipt has a decision, you’ll be notified via email.
If you’ve been waitlisted, you'll have to wait to hear back from Shipt, which could take a while. In the meantime, you can try applying to other similar apps that may be hiring in your area, such as DoorDash or Instacart .
